iPad 3 Vs. PS Vita

The impending launch of the iPad 3 ( rumored for March 7) so close to the US launch of the Sony PlayStation Vita immediately leads to the question: Are these two devices competing? Some would say no; the PS Vita is intended to be a game console primarily, with some other uses and capabilities, while the iPad 3 (as with the current iPad 2) is a general purpose device that also happens to play games. That's an abstract analysis; in the real world most people don't have the money to casually spend $250 or $300 on a game device, or $500 or more on a tablet
